President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner called today to continue developing scientific knowledge to "provide answers to a world which increasingly calls for improvement to the standard of living". The President headed this midday a ceremony at the Education Ministry alongside Germany's Chancellor, Guido Westerwelle and took the opportunity to remark on the coincidences between Argentina and Germany in the scientific arena.

"El secreto de sus ojos" ( in English, The Secret in Their Eyes),  by director Juan José Campanella, won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film today past midnight, thus becoming the second Argentine film to be awarded this prize after 1986's "La historia oficial". For Campanella, the award comes as a revenge of sorts after "El hijo de la novia" was equally nominated for this award in 2002 but did not win.

March 8, 2010.  The Andean Promotion Corporation (CAF) has granted a 240 million dollar loan to expand the operation of the Embalse Nuclear plant located at the Argentine province of Córdoba, reported Télam. It is the first loan of its kind ever granted to a multilateral organism for nuclear energy purposes.

The Ministry of Health of the Nation reported today that more than 750,000 doses of vaccines against influenza A were already handed out in every provinces of Argentina to begin to immunize the risk´s groups. Also, there was officialized in the Official Gazette the national vaccination campaign, which declares it as a public health priority.
